Covenants - Etymology

Etymology as defined by WikiPedia is the study of the origin of words. According to the Handbook of Online Learning, the etymology of the term Covenant is as follows:

  • Latin root of covenant means literally a “coming together.”
  • Old French convenir meant “to agree.”
  • Later English usage added convocation, which means sharing in the pursuit of a common interest.
