Although a covenant invites participants to place their trust in the group it does not avoid confrontation on difficult issues.

An effective covenant should balance the “tough” side of critical engagement, and the “caring” side of the process through a spirit of collaborative exploration, active listening, open-mindedness, and appreciation of seeing things from another person’s perspective.

Question for Reflection: What are some ways you can engage your students and challenge their learning while still maintaining a relaxed and welcoming environment?
